Let's be honest...

As far as this class goes, I have no complaints that I can logically tie to the class itself. I could argue that there's too much busywork, but that would merely satisfy my procrastination and laziness. The assignments are fairly given and comfortably spread out. They have meaning and depth and are good practice for the course.

The essays, except for the rhetorical analysis, grab my attention and demand my participation well. For the most part I feel invested in my topics and the writing itself seems less like a chore. The rhetorical analysis, I must say, is another monster entirely. I understand the importance of understanding and analyzing others' writings, but maybe there's a better way! Devoting an entire 4-page essay to a glorified reading technique feels a little bit excessive. Ok, that was rough. The diatribe is over. I understand the importance of rhetorical analysis and I find it personally interesting. It wasn't enough, however, to keep my interest through 4 pages of pre-writing, editing, and drafting.

All in all, this is a great class and I feel like I am improving my reading and writing techniques greatly. My favorite part about this class is that it is majorly supported by one particularly educational pillar:

youtube videos during class lectures.

  1. I agree that the Rhetorical Analysis paper was a bit much and really stretched us. And I totally agree with your last statement: youtube videos are the greatest!
