Scarcity Is Scary

BYU has always been a popular university, with its incredible value and its appeal to LDS youth throughout the world its no wonder it is often a crowded campus. As the Mormon faith continues to grow so does the demand for students wanting to be educated at its most prestigious university. This demand coupled by a limited amount of space on campus creates a scarcity which is quickly becoming the University's largest problem due to overcrowding of classrooms, increasing rental costs, and lost opportunities.

Space is quickly becoming an issue on campus. It is obvious that the original design and layout of the university was not meant for such a large student body, from parking to campus size BYU is just not large enough to support a student body of over 30,000. This overcrowding is followed by a huge demand for limited living space, this demand drives rental rates up to ridiculous amounts anywhere within walking distance of the campus making  it even more difficult for students trying to get by on an already tight budget. The last issue caused by the overcrowding of BYU is that too many students who would love to have an opportunity to study here are unable to do so.

The scariest part of the scarcity issue at BYU is there is no real good answer, as the education earned at BYU continues to increase in value and as the LDS population continues to grow, the demand for seats in its already overcrowded classrooms will continue to rise, the rental rates will continue to climb and the opportunities lost will follow suit.
