I have always been a sports lover, I'm planning on majoring in Athletic Training actually and as part of this major I plan on being a part of the continuation of sports and the support of them. I also recognize that having successful sports programs is good for the morale of the students or, in other words, the general feeling on campus. I believe this University to be lead by a man called of God as well and while I choose to express my humble opinion, I believe the school will be taken in a direction that will bless its student population, however BYU's biggest problem is the choice to use so much budget money on sports.
Working the budget of a major university is not an easy job, but I feel that students should be more financially backed by a Church-run university. True, it does have surely one of the cheapest out of state tuitions in the entire country, the University of Brigham Young has always been for the furthering of knowledge and the gaining of it, not that is has the coolest banners with the starting quaterback's name on it. Things like a winning season and a new jersey every once in a while are great to see, but I'd personally rather be able to get a degree necessary to provide for my future family and follow the council of modern prophets to improve myself intellectually.
I am keeping my head above water thankfully, but I would appreciate a few less banners and mist-spraying fans on the sidelines of football games so that I and other like me from poorer beginnings can enjoy something we may have never enjoyed: the gift of studying, living and working for a righteous cause without having to pinch pennies.
I feel like this complaint would be relevant in the context of a school like USC ($50,000 a year). According to US News' College Rankings

BYU is ranked 15th in the nation in best value colleges. This complaint would be more legitimate if BYU wasn't already making a HUGE effort to make tuition as cheap as is feasible (for members and non members).
According to US News (again), the two school's nearest to BYU in overall ranking have tuitions of $30,000 and $40,000. BYU should be about $35,000 a semester. We have no right to complain.

Basically, my argument is that we have no room to complain. And, since we don't have all of the spending numbers from BYU (since it is a private University), our speculation can't be accurate.
Yep can't complain. Sports is just apart of the culture here and at every college. Plus the revenue that ticket sales bring in and publicity it gives are hard to replace. Traditions like sports at colleges would be pretty hard to break especially for how loved it is.
