Admirer #3

From what is written, I can tell that the writer of the note is my best friend. They care about me primarily as a friend rather than a love interest and are hoping to use that foundation of friendship to build a relationship. I can tell they are thoughtful and they pay attention to what I like because they know where my favorite bowling alley is. I can tell they're polite because they don't want to put too much pressure on me.

This note mainly center around Ethos because the writer is trying to establish their credibility with me by stating they are my best friend. By using that position of trust, the author has added credibility to their argument. By simply stating that they are my best friend, I already know I trust them and love being around them, even though I don't know who it is. They reinforce this by stating that they'll always be here for me. This increases the feeling of security. They also state that nobody knows me better, by which they imply that they will be able to take good care of me.

The next most abundant form of appeal is Pathos. After the author establishes their credibility as my best friend, they proceed to try to flatter me by telling me that I am special. This is a direct, obvious use of emotion to persuade me to their point of view. They also mention my favorite bowling alley, which will have positive connotations for me.

All of these things together show that the admirer is someone who cares about me and my personal space and the most important thing for them is that I trust them. This note had a lot of good appeals and definitely set the author up as someone I can trust.

  1. Great analysis! I agree, this one is the best of the three. The person is reliable and you can tell that he or she is a close friend. I also agree that Ethos is the strongest appeal.

  2. Yeah the appeal of ethos is probably the most important one in writing a love note. That's why Admirer 3 is the best also since she establishes this credibility the best. Don't be too trusting though! They could deceive you!
